The shore gives you wind whether you plan for it or not, so we built the table around it instead of against it. Runners were cut long enough to lift and settle with each gust, centerpieces stayed low — dried palm, sea lavender, one taper each — and every place card was weighted with a flat stone from the same beach. Nobody lost a napkin all night.

We staged the last course to land after the tide turned, so the front row of chairs ended up facing open water instead of dry sand. That wasn’t on the timeline when we drew it up, but the string of hurricane lamps along the new waterline gave us twenty minutes of light on moving water that the rest of the evening couldn’t match.
